TOUR #4 Friday August 6 to Sunday August 8, 2010

North-West Resistance

2010 is the 125th anniversary of the North-West Resistance of 1885. This tour, which will be repeated three times during the summer, will visit the 10 sites throughout Saskatchewan and Alberta where some form of conflict was associated with the Resistance. It would have been nice to visit the sites in the chronological sequence in which the events occured, however, this would require too much back-tracking. Therefore we will start off at Duck Lake and then proceed to Fort Carlton, Fish Creek, Batoche, Steele Narrows, Frog Lake, Fort Pitt, Frenchman Butte, Cut Knife Hill and conclude our journey through the troubles of 1885 at Fort Battleford.

Tour Cost $650 per person, based on double occupancy*
SHFS Member price $600

Early Bird booking deduct $50 per person
*Single Occupancy add $110

TOUR #5 - Saturday August 21 to Friday August 29, 2010

The Palliser Expedition - Part 2

150 years ago Captain Palliser was in the middle of his three year exploration of Western Canada. Continuing on from the last tour of our 2009 History on the Road tour season, we will be following the trail west of the Palliser Expedition. Starting in central Saskatchewan, this tour will concentrate on the Expedition's time in Alberta, however, we will be going as far west as Kootenay Valley in British Columbia. Our travels will take us as far as Fort Edmonton and as far south as Waterton Lakes.

The 2010 portion of this tour will be doing something that we have not offered on previous History on the Road tours. As you may know Kicking Horse Pass just west of Lake Louise was named after an incident that occurred during the Palliser Expedition. The site of this incident is several kilometres south of the Trans-Canada Highway and we will offer those tour participants with a sense of adventure, the opportunity of a half day hike into the mountains to explore this area. For those tour participants who are less adventurous, activities in the town of Banff will also be arranged during this time.

Tour Cost $2,250 per person, based on double occupancy*
SHFS Member price $2,150

Book Before July 16, 2010 and deduct $100
*Single Occupancy add $600

TOUR #6 Saturday Sept. 18 to Sunday Sept. 26, 2010

Many current Saskatchewan residents can trace their family's entrance into Canada through the gates of Halifax's Pier 21. It is here that our week long tour of this historic city and province begins. While driving along the Northumberland Shore, where the first Scottish settlers landed, we will ensure at least one lobster feast is enjoyed. Then its on to Annapolis Valley and the Bay of Fundy before checking out Nova Scotia's French heritage along the Acadian Shore surrounding Yarmouth. As with all our tours, the pricing is all inclusive, meaning airfare from either Saskatoon or Regina is included in the price.
